Gear terminology : design of gear
Hi! Friends today we are going to learn about gear terminology. A gear have many parts and these all parts called by different names, these all names are known as gear terminology.
Gear terminology :-
There are many types of gear terminology but today we will discuss about some basic gear terminology, which are as follows-
1. Addendum.
2. Addendum distance.
3. Dedendum.
4. Dedendum distance.
5. Pitch circle.
6. Clearance.
7. Top land.
8. Face.
9. Flank.
Addendum : gear terminology:-
Addendum is a circle which made at top of the tooth of the gear. In other words if we draw a imaginary circle at top of the gear this circle known as addendum.
Addendum distance : gear terminology:-
Addendum distance is a distance between addendum circle and pitch circle.
Dedendum : gear terminology:-
Dedendum is a circle which made at bottom of the tooth of the gear.
Dedendum distance : gear terminology:-
The dedendum distance is a distance between pitch circle and dedendum circle.
Pitch circle : gear terminology:-
Pitch circle is a circle which made at sloped shape start on the tooth of the gear between the addendum and dedendum. This is a important terminology of gear because where a gear tooth transmit the power to the other gear tooth.
Clearance : gear terminology:-
As you know always two gears work together and tooth of both gears remain meshed always. When a tooth transmit the power to the other tooth when there some gap always happens between both tooth, this gap knows as clearance of gear.
Top land : gear terminology:-
The top place of the tooth of the gear is known as top land.
Face : gear terminology:-
A distance between addendum and pitch circle of a tooth of the gear is known as face.
Flank : gear terminology:-
A distance between dedendum and pitch circle of a tooth of the gear is known as flank.
