Dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 : construction and working

The dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 is a main actuator which help to apply service brake in both front and rear wheel by pressurized air. The dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 is fitted with foot brake pedal and it works with foot brake pedal. So now we are going to learn about construction and working of dual brake valve ALS Mk-3

Construction of Dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 :-

Dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 is fitted with foot brake pedal. The dual brake valve have one plunger which is connected with push rod of the foot brake pedal.

Dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 have two pistons, first one is primary piston and second is secondary piston. It also have two valves, first one is primary valve and second one is secondary valve.

Both pistons and valve have seperate returning springs to keeps it self in initial position. There is a atmospheric way provided for releasing unwanted air pressure into the atmosphere.

The dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 have two air inlets and four air outlets. Two air inlets from 25 ltr air reservoir and 50 ltr air reservoir. Four outlets there are two outlets for air pressure gauges and third outlet to relay valve and fourth outlet to emergency relay valve.

Working of Dual brake valve ALS Mk-3 :-

In normal condition the air always remains filled till inlet from both air reservoirs. But the primary valve and secondary valve remains closed the outlets.

When driver push the brake pedal the push rod push the plunger of the dual brake valve and plunger moves forward. Because of this all pistons and valves are moves forward.

For moving forward of both primary and secondary valve the air outlet open and incoming air goes out through outlet to relay valve a d emergency relay valve.

The relay valve helps to apply brake in rear wheel and emergency relay valve helps to apply brake in front wheel.

After releasing the foot brake pedal the all parts like plunger, both pistons and both valve coming into initial position because of returning spring.

The air is back flow from relay valve and emergency relay valve into the dual brake valve and releas into the atmosphere by the atmospheric way.
